This painting is a comission piece by the subject in the middle, Frank Petock. All three of the subject boats and one of the sailboats hidden behind them are, in fact, live-aboards. I particularly like this painting because it tells it's own story in the items and condition of the boats. But how about that water, huh? Did I get it? It is a long deep plein-air painting method that results in a deep, yet reflective surface that doesn't freeze still, as when done with photo assistance. If I got it right, the water is not still at all. It should move free of its surface, yet still hold together as water. Of course, you be the judge. |
