One view of creation
"...So which story of Creation is 'correct',
Perek Aleph or Perek Bet? As you probably have
guessed both, for in daily life man finds himself involved
in both a physical and spiritual environment...."

And another view of creation
"... the creation of the world was carried
out on two distinct planes according to a six-day creation,
to teach people who accept the Torah the centrality of the human
being's role in carrying out Hashem's will in the world, and
according to a 20-billion year apparent creation, to teach those
who do not accept the Torah these humbling lessons in a different
manner."

"... I seem
to use the word "Torah" to imply different meanings
in my book The Heavenly Time Machine: Essays on Science
and Torah.... Sometimes I refer to a book, sometimes
to a mode of inquiry, sometimes to a body of knowledge, and sometimes
to something else.... The Torah is vast and complex, well beyond
my ability to explain. And Torah, per se, is at an even
higher level of complexity...." |

"...it is the
firm Jewish Orthodox position that the six days of creation are
ordinary days and that the universe is less than 6000 years old.

"One frequently
finds arguments in favor of the Bible and against science on
the basis that the science is "only a theory." Now
if the science were a "law" then perhaps we might pay
some attention to it. But a theory is, after all, just a suggestion....
But we usually don't think that way about a scientific "law."
A law seems real. A law seems solid. We expect nature to obey
its laws...." |

"...Is the
fit to the time of the flood a coincidence? Is the deviation
of one part of an hour, over all of time for one celestial cycle,
a coincidence? Is the integer fraction, 1/6, for the end of the
cycle a coincidence? Is the agreement of modern science and ancient
Torah a coincidence?..." |

"...Most people
would agree that a miracle involves Divine intervention. If the
evidence points to Divine intervention then we have a miracle.
Otherwise we do not have a miracle. Most people would say that
a violation of natural law requires Divine intervention and is
indicative of a miracle...." |
