The Orphanage
Children's Literature
Good Stories, well written and of a classic nature.  An Orphanage Press young people's book is decent, exciting, entrancing and full of traditional American values.  No explicit sexuality, no political correctness.  We like the style of fiction kids read in the Forties and Fifties, so that's what we offer.  Some (far from all) modern educators hate books like these!  We take that as high praise.

Far Walker by Larry Leonard.  This wonderful tale by our editor in chief has transfixed children for years.  Publisher's Weekly said of it: "Readers will be swept along."  Walt Morey, the author of Gentle Ben, called it a classic.  Jean Auel, of Clan of the Cave Bear fame told us she lost a full day's work because once she began to read it, she couldn't put it down.  The story of David the Lemming, who is made outcast and must go on a vision quest to find his place in life, is one no child should miss.  The lessons it has to teach about life will be of permanent value for a child you love.  (Click on the book cover for more.)

The Bantam/Doubleday/Dell version was a paperback and is no longer available, but these are rare first edition Breitenbush hardcovers, and we only have a few hundred copies left.  (#CB1) Only $12.95 plus shipping. Order!

Note: Far Walker is actually the third book in a trilogy that is being written backwards.  The second book, whose working title is The Eagle Who Was Afraid To Fly, is ready for publication, and if all goes well (which it never does) will be available in the fall of 1998.  The first book of the Far Walker trilogy, whose working title is Wolf Moon, is being written at this time, and could be out in 1999.  In 2000, or before if the gods are kind, we will do a paperback reprint of Far Walker and assemble all three into a boxed collection.

(Second note: we have authors working now on a sea story, a classic car story and an African adventure.)

(Third note: we have some old favorites ... books that we love, and believe should not be out of print.  We intend to bring back some of them for your kids, and for ours.  If you have any residing in your heart, use our e-mail address on the Orphanage Home Page to let us know about them.  As time and money allow, we will build a wonderful library together.)
