Overheard in Hollywood
By Erskine Johnson
Piper Laurie and
Tony Curtis called off their feud after getting a scolding from their studio bosses.
They will be seen as team-mates again in Johny Dark. The big fly in the ointment
is that Piper is loyal to producer Leonard Goldstein, who discovered her, as well
as Tony. But Tony and Goldstein get on less swimmingly. As for Piper and Janet Leigh,
reported many times to be at odds because of Piper's one-time crush on Tony. I can
tell you that they're friendly. In Hollywood, of course, friendly means not knifing
the next person in the back!

and white photo of Piper talking to Rock Hudson, who is lying in a hospital bed-

WIDE-EYED AND innocent...
But
don't let that sweet look fool you . These angel-faced charmers have the Hollywood
men in a tizzy.

Piper Laurie looks demure, but she's
far from a little stay-at-home. Piper lives in a simple bungalow with her father
and mother, and is as gentle as a dove. But that girl is a magnet for the Hollywood
wolves-all ages. Take, for instance, teh time Ted Briskin, who is Berry Hutton's
ex-husband and a guy who gets around, took one look at Piper and went on an all-out
campaign, sending her long-stemmed roses every morning and calling her all day long.
And Leonard Goldstein, who is one of Hollywood's leading producers and a bachelor
besides, by-passes the galmor-and-glitter girls and has eyes only for little Piper.
Carlos Thompson, the handsome MGM actor whom exotic Yvonne de Carlo had tabbed for
her own, met Piper, whistled metally and said, "That's for me." This happeneed
after Yvonne left for Europe, and Carlos started rushing Piper like mad. The story
goes that Yvonne heard about it in Paris and became so alarmed that she phoned Carlos
from Europe and told him in no uncertain terms that she didn't want him dating Piper
any more.
