SPORTING ACTRESS
FELICITY HUFFMAN

I had been putting off writing about what makes Dana Whitaker (Sports Night) and Felicity Huffman (wife) so smart, because I was afraid I might sound stupid. Yesterday we were watching a documentary about Andrew Wiles, the mathematician who proved Fermat's Last Theorem. Wiles described the moment when he found the solution. His voice cracked, he struggled to speak, and finally he looked away. Both Felicity and I had tears in our eyes. I said, "Can you believe it? He's talking about a math problem!" And she said, "No, he's talking about a moment of enlightenment." And there you have it. Felicity has the skill and the tenacity and the bravery to sort out knotty problems and find the moral fulcrum upon which the answer rests. And Dana Whitaker? She loves being a woman, and she loves men. She is always making peace, but she's not afraid of a fight. Of course, Dana Whitaker isn't real. She doesn't have a soul. For that, you have to look to the woman who is, at this writing, asleep in our bed. I can't wake Dana Whitaker, but I can wake Felicity. And if you'll excuse me, I'm going to do just that.- William H. Macy

The article is on a full page color photo of Felicity in a black dress with her left hand in her pocket and right arm raised, smiling at the camera.
