In the 1880 Census, (76[2]a. Harriet(t) Wells's parents' are shown to have been born in OH. This doesn't agree with (76) Jonathan's line, since he was born in NY. Because Jonathan and Lois lived in OH when Harriet was born, though, this is an understandable reporting error. Milo Wells is likewise listed in the 1880 Census as having both parents born in NY. This is also probably a reporting error, since he was born after (76) Jonathan married Lois (b. CT) in Steuben Co., NY.

"The Stevens' were a group of people who couldn't stand civilization: as soon as a bunch of settlers moved in, the Stevens' were on the move again."
-- Jill Fyfe, quoting Elizabeth Stevens Stuart of Leeds Co., Ontario, Canada.
"[Guy Carleton Stevens was] named in honor of Sir Guy Carleton, Highly respected British leader during the Revolutionary War. Found with his family in both 1840/1850 Census Ogdensburg,NY. [In 1840, besides three females who were probalby his wife and daughters, there lived with him a woman aged 20-30 years, who could have been Margaret's daughter Susan.] On 21 Sep 1853 he & Margaret sold their property for the considerable sum of $3000..."

Guy's real estate was assessed at $2000 in 1850 and $5000 in 1870. He was listed as a Carpenter in both years.
It is probable that (78) Guy Stevens' wife (79) Margaret was a Native American. Guy's uncle, (156[1]a[1]) Stephen Burritt, who had served with Guy's father with the British during the American Revolution, regularly welcomed American Indians at his home, because the Indians had saved the lives of Burritt and his family in the wilderness.
The story goes in my family that (39) Mary Ann Stevens "ran like a Pottawotamie", and that there were Indians in the family tree. This was receently confirmed by DNA testing, which showed descendants after five genrations to have been 7% Native American. Less than half of this may be accounted for by Polly, the probable mother of (36) Silas Parrish.
"WILL: Abner Aldrich; Canton, St. Lawrence co., New York (11 June 1863)...
"I bequeath and give to my children Hiram Aldrich, Achsah wife of Edmund Damon, Harris Aldrich, Lydia wife of Brigham Sykes, each the sum of two hundred dollars...."

In the 1850 Oswegatchie, NY Census, Hiram and Francis Aldrich were shown to be living with Guy C. Stephens, his wife Margaret and daughter Mary. In 1970, Guy C. Stevens and his wife Margaret appear in the Michigan City, IN Census living with their daughter Francis (last name not indicated), but no Hiram. Hiram was an accountant in 1850. A different Hiram, possibly a son of Harris, appears in the following directory listing:
"WHITESIDE CO IL BUSINESSMEN of 1897
Sterling & Rock Falls
"Pg. 37 Hiram Aldrich, the musical dealer, was born in the State of New York in 1855. The family came west in 1857 and settled in Wisconsin. After a residence of twenty years in that State the family moved to Iowa. Mr. Aldrich came to Sterling in 1886 and for eight years had charge of the music house of J.L. Mahan. Two years ago he purchased the stock of Mr. Mahan and has since conducted the busienss. He handles all kinds of musical merchandise and makes a specialty of Story & Clark pianos and organs."
