"The earliest person with the Fitch surname dates from 1240, and the earliest Fitch from whom we in America can claim descendancy dates from about 1400. There is no Fitch castle. There are no nobles or titles in our line."

This family is posted all over the Internet, with the names and dates approximately as shown; but I have seen no primary sources cited.

40239. unknown (F)
There is a great deal of confusion about this family. (20119) Margery Bedell is usually shown to be the daughter of a John B. (1511-various) of Notley, Essex. I have found no substantiation for this claim. Another source (see below) has (40238) Thomas as the father, and the (40238[2]) Johanne of Thomas's will as the mother. Since (20119) Margery is shown as b. 1529 (??) and Johanne & Thomas b. 1526 and m. 1538 at Age 12, this is unlikely. The children listed are from the will, to whom I have arbitrarily assigned birthdates and mothers.
"Re: Wills of Thomas and Joan Bedell of Black Notley, Es***
"Thomas Bedyll of Black Notley in the County of Es***, Yoman, in his will, dated September 16, 1550 (and proved in the Commissary Court of the Bishop of London for parts of Es***), directs his body to be buried in Black Notley church, and mentions his wife Johan, his daughters Alice, Custans, Johan, and Margery, and his sons John the elder, Thomas, James, and John the younger.
"The will of a Johanne Bedell of Hatfield Peverell, co. Es***, widow, was proved in the Commissary Court of the Bishop of London for parts of Es*** in 1576. ... She mentions the children of three daughters, Brokes, Wyseman, and Rix or Cricks. This testatrix was probably Johan, the widow of Thomas Bedyll of Black Notley."
