(630) William's wife has been reported as either "Danube" or "Quimby". I haven't seen the original script, but a handwritten "Q" can be confused with a "D"; "uim" can look like "anu", and "by" was a variant of "be"; so I suspect the variation is due to transcription error.

1261. Frances unknown

A couple of IGI entries show (631) Anna Quimby's husband as (630) William Bell b. 6 Jan. 1693/94 Temple Patrick, Antrim, N. Ireland; but no sources are indicated. Savage doesn't mention any New England Bell or Bill lines of Scotch-Irish derivation coming to America before 1719 (when John Bell of Ballymoney settled in Londonderry, NH) -- which adds to my suspicion concerning the validity of the "Temple Patrick" connection. The Bell family was settled in the small hamlet of Stonington for some time when William appeared, so it seems more reasonable to look for local roots. The above seems to be the most likely line: it is a line of "Bill"s, some of whom changed their name to "Bell"; and most of whom migrated from England to Boston to New London Co., CT. It is also the only line I could find (after MUCH searching) which had a "William" born at the appropriate time.

1262. unknown Quimby (M)

1263. unknown (F)

As with the Bell line above, I have combined the two Quimbys into one family, since they lived in the same small village at the same time.

The Quimby family traces their ancestral roots back to Norman origin, and first appeared in ancient medieval records in Leicestershire.

The "Danube" family, which surname is sometimes applied to Anne, is presumably of French origin, from Languedoc. The difference between the names could be due to difficult-to-read handwriting, however, and there were no b>Danubes that I know of in Stonington.
