Holcomb, Nathaniel, Simsbury. Invt. L100 plus. Taken 2 April, 1741, by (2467v[1]) Elias Slater and Jno. Owen, Jr. Will dated 7 February, 1740-1: I, Nathaniel Holcomb, Sen., of Simsbury, do make this my last will and testament: Imprimis. To my wife, besides what I have already secured for her before marriage, I give her the sum of 20 shillings. Item. I give to my sons, (i) Nathaniel, (iii) Jonathan, (iv) John and (xii) Benjamin, that lott of land of 150 acres that lyeth near the northwest corner of the Town bounds, to be equally divided between them. Also, to my sons, Nathaniel, Jonathan and John, I give the 1/2 of my propriety in Windsor of undivided land.

To my son Nathaniel I also give my right and interest in the Copper Hill, the whole of it, and also that addition of land that was made to my lott at Raven Swamp. To Jonathan I give further 10 acres of land lying on Salmon Brook Plaine. To John I give 12 acres of land lying at Barn Door Hills.

I give to my son Benjamin the other half of my right in Windsor undivided lands, the house and homestead I now dwell on, being about 3 acres, with the orcharding standing on it; also 14 acres of land at the head of Owen's Brook, as it was layd out, be it more or less; also the remainder of my home division lott that I am now possessed of; also 10 acres of land at a place called Slater's Swamp, bounded south in part on Elias Slater's land. Also, I give to Benjamin the 1/2 of my copper's (cooper's?) tools and my best gunn, and the other half to my sons Nathaniel, Jonathan and John.

To my five daughters, (ii) Mary, (ix) Katharine, (vi) Hester, (x) Sarah and (viii) Margaret, I give, after debts and legacies are paid out of them, the remainder of my moveable estate, to be divided equally amongst them. And to the son of my daughter (v) Martha deceased I give 20 shillings, to be paid him by my sons Nathaniel, Jonathan and John, to buy him a Bible. To my daughter (2465ii) Mary I give her a cow in particular, to be taken out of my moveables before the division is made. And ordain my son Benjamin to be my sole executor.

"BUELL, (2466) PETER, Windsor, s. of (4932) William, rem. 1670 to Simbury, d. 8 Jan. 1729, had (2467xii) Samuel, (2467viii) Ephraim, (2467vi) William, and (2467x) Jonathan, beside seven ds. He had sec. w. (2466[3]) Mary, wid. of (2466[3][1]) Jacob Bissell, but wh. was the first w. is unkn. or how many of his ch. were by her is uncert. yet as this w. was not m. bef. 1698, it is highly prob. that she was not mo. of all his ch. The ds. were (2467ii) Abigail, (1233) Martha, (2467iv) Mary, (2467v) Sarah, (2467ix) Hannah, (2467xi) Miriam, and (2466[3]a) Esther. These are all nam. as well as w. in his will of 28 June bef. his d. but some were not liv."

Other ch. he had, by w. Sarah, at Salem, as John, again, 1 July 1688; Hannah, 9 Dec. 1689; Abigail, James, perhaps more, and left large est. at W. and Boston."

pr Land at norwitch new uilleg a bout 3000 or 4000 acres. pr Stock of Horses & Cattle there (yet unknown).

Will nuncupative, dated 13 January, 1692.

Lt. John Buttolph, being very sicke, did desire us whose Names are underwritten to take notice what his minde was concerning his Estate: That after his debts and Funeral Charges being paid, his eldest son (i) John Buttolph shall have a double portion of all his Estate, the rest of his Estate to be equally divided amongst the rest of his children. It was his Will that his daughter ([2]a) Abigail shall have the best feather bed with all the furniture to it, the rest of her portion to be in pewter and Brass and Iron: and if that will not amount to her part, then it shall be made up out of the Land at norwiche that I had with her Mother.

I doe declare that the worshipll (2515ii[1]) Capt. Mason and my eldest son John Buttolph shall be the Executors. And I desire that these two men shall take care also of my three youngest children, (viii) Jonathan, Abigall and ([2]b) James. And my Will is that my eldest son John shall have the first choice of my Estate after my Debts are paid.

I also declare that my son George his wife Elizabeth Buttolph shall have œ10 in such Goods as she shall choose, for her own proper Estate besides her husband's portion, for her loving, careful paines in attending of me in my sickness. I also desire my son John Buttolph shall have my great Seal Skin Trunk.

2471. Elizabeth Churchill

There is much conjecture about (2470) Henry's origins, but we actually only know for sure that he showed up in Wethersfield about the same time as Emanuel/ Ephraim. He may have been the "Cousin Buck referred to in a memorandum concerning Joseph Kirby, in which case he would have lived in Rowington, Warwick, England.
