If the wife's name were Pinkney, she may have been descended from Philip Pinkney (1618-1688/89), who immigrated to Fairfield, CT ABT 1640 from Dinton, Wilts, England

* Perquimans, NC, on Albemarle Sound, had a large Quaker community in the last quarter of the 17 Century, their only church at the time. There are no Poissons on the 1702 & succeeding Tax Lists, which suggests that the (1240) Edward Poisson who married (1241) Hester Knight there the year before was Edward, a merchant who probably plied the seas between Connecticut and Barbados.

According to "Life along the Eastern Shore", the Forbes family lived with the Knights for six months before their move together to NC, so there is speculation that they are related. James Forbus' wife's pre-marriage name was apparently Clason.

Lewis and (1241) Hester Knight were the same as the followiing, seeing that the Forbes family quit their land in Accomack Co., VA and moved at the same time (cf. http://www.geocities.com/heartland/fields/8162/forbes.html and http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/FORBES/2000-04/0954951016):

"I have some information found while researching the Knight family that may connect towhat you're looking for. In William Saunders, ed., _Colonial Records of North Carolina_ there is a description of a court transaction in April 1702 involving a (1241[1]a) Lewis Alexander Knight in Perquimans Precinct. A Captain James Coles had sold land to a (1241) Hester Perssone (prob. = Poisson) for the use of her two sons, Lewes Alexsander Knite and (1241[1]b) Emanewell Knite (i.e., Lewis and Emanuelle Knight). Apparently, this same Lewis Alexander Knight later, as an adult, left a will in Pasquotank County dated April 1732 (I obtained a copy of the will from the NC State Archives.) He mentions his wife, Ann, and his son Lewis in this will. Perhaps this Lewis Alexander is the son of your (1241[1]) Louis Chavalier, alias Knight, especially since he was the son of a woman named Hester. I would suggest that you peruse Saunders' volumes of colonial NC records for more possible references, if you haven't already."

The above lines look the most promising, as the parents of (621) Sarah Pingky, but I have no evidence of any connection.

In 1685, Thomas Pinckney was assessed 5s for the maintenance of a minister.
There appears to be a conflict with the above: Most websites show Caleb married to a different Sarah; or a Caleb Jr. (much younger) married to Sarah Pinckney "WARD, ...SAMUEL, Fairfield, among the freem. in the list of 1669, s. of the first Andrew, and d. bef. 1693, leav. wid. Hannah, and ch. Edmund, Samuel, and ds. Hannah, and Sarah, if not more. His wid. had been w. of Jonathan Nichols of Stratford, and was not mo. of any of these ch."
The above lines look the most promising, as the grandparents of (621) Sarah Pingky, but I have no evidence of any connection.

After moving from Fairfield, CT to Westchester Co., NY, at least some members of the family returned to Fairfield Co., CT: A Jean Pinkney is recorded as being baptized in Fairfield in the late 1690's. Philip bought land from Thomas Pell in Westchester Co. in 1664, as evidenced by the following grant:
"Know all men by these presents, that I, Thomas Pell, have granted to James Euestis and Philip Pinckney, for themselves and their associates, to the number of ten families, to settle down at Hutchinsons, that is where the house stood at the meadow and uplands, to Hutchinson's river, they paying according to ye proportion of the charges which was disburst for the purchase, and other necessary charges, only liberty to have the disposing of two lotts upon the same terms with them, because that I might provide them some tradesmen for their comfort, as a smith, or weaver, or what else with their approbation, witness my hand, this 24th of June, 1664.
