"PECK, ...(5014) PAUL, Hartford 1639, was not an orig. propr. nor is it kn. from what town in Mass. he went. More do we regret, that no light can be found to indcate from what part of Eng. or in what sh. he came; but the name of his w. was (5015) Martha, and of ch. (5015i) Paul, b. 1639; (2507) Martha, 1641; (5015iii) Elizabeth 1643; (5015iv) John, 22 Dec. 1645; (5015v) Samuel, 1647; (5015vi) Joseph, 22 Dec. 1650; (5015vii) Sarah, 1653; (5015viii) Hannah, 1656; and (5015x) Mary, 1662, wh. m. (5015x[1]) John Andrew, and liv. to 1752. his will of 25 June 1695, was pro. 25 Jan. foll. he hav. d. 23 Dec. aged 87 yrs. Martha m. 8 June 1665, (2506) John Cornwell. Elizabeth m. it is said, a (5015iii[1]) House [sic] of Wallingford; Sarah m. (5015vii[1]) Thomas Clark of Hartford; and Hannah m. 12 May 1680, (5015viii[1]) John Shepherd of Hartford. Two more ds. are by some tradit, giv. to this first Paul, one, without a name of bapt. is said to have m. Joseph Benton of Tolland; and the other call. (5015ix) Ruth, wh. is made to m. 12 May 1680, (5015ix[1]) Thomas Beach of Wallingford; but neither is very prob."

"DEACON PAUL PECK, b. about 1622 (depos. on will of Widow Barding). A proprietor “by courtesie of the town” in 1639; his home–lot was on “the road from George Steele’s to the Great Swamp.” He was surveyor of highways, 1658, 1665; townsman, 1661, 1668; chimney–viewer, 1667; deacon of the First Ch., April, 1691. He d. Dec. 23, 1695, a. 87; inv. £536. 5.; named wife Martha in his will. Ch.:

  • "i. Paul, b. 1639; m. Elizabeth, dau. of John Baysey; lived in the West Division; d. 1725.
  • "ii. Martha, b. 1641; m. June 8, 1665, John Cornwell, of Middletown; d. March 1, 1708–9.
  • "iii. Elizabeth, b. 1643; m. ——Howe, of Wallingford.
  • "iv. John, b. Dec. 22, 1645; Hartford, West Division; m. and had children.
  • "v. Samuel, b. 1647; lived in the West Division; m. Elizabeth——; d. Jan. 10, 1696.

"Ira Peck (1868) indicates that [(5014) Paul's] place of birth is "Essex, England", but no direct proof is given. Taylor (5/26/1997) indicates that Deacon Paul's birth place is Eltisley, England in Cambridgeshire..."
