"The date of Jan Gerretsen Decker's arrival to this country is unknown... Jan Gerretsen took the name of Decker prior to 1685; yet used the name of "Gerretsen" several times thereafter. There were eight Gerretesens in the area at that time Ours was born in Holland prior to 1640 and died in Port Jervis in 1717."

"(1029) Greitjen had an illegitimate child by Pieter Jacobsen (Van Holstyn), who was born in Holstein, Denmark and died 1663 or 1664 at Kingston, NY. He was a miller at Kingston. She sued Pieter Jacobsen on Oct 4, 1662 stating that he had ruined her and asked, "to have her honor restored."

"He denied that the child was his and also that he had promised to marry her. She testified that she had became pregnant at his mill on Dec 17, 1661... He, in turn, said that she was indecent and produced evidence from Jurien Van Westfall and his wife to the fact "Greitjen Westercamp lay under one blanket with Han Van Breeman, with his daughter between them." Pieter Jacobsen, after having been questioned, admitted that he had "lain" with her, but denied paternity or that he had promised to marry her or offered her any money. He questioned that a woman could be pregnant for 13 months 4 days. Pieter Jacobsen sued her on Jan 9, 1663, asking for "release"... He was granted the "freedom to marry whom he pleases" on Feb 6, 1663 but was ordered to pay her 200 guilders for her "services in having "lain" with him." Her child was Pieter (uncertain what surname he may have went by) was baptized Oct 1, 1662 at Kingston, Ulster Co., NY.

"GRIETJE WAS TAKEN CAPTIVE BY THE INDIANS ON JUNE 7TH 1663. ALONG WITH THREE OF HER CHILDREN, LATER TO BE RESCUED."

New York – New Jersey Line War

"The first settlement along the western border region began in 1690 with the founding of the town of Port Jervis on the Delaware River by the (556) Cortright, (516[2][1]) Van Auken, (1031vi[1]) Westbrook, (1028) Decker, (1133vii[1]) Kuykendal, Westfall, (566) Titsworth, (2079vii[2]) Cole, and (4555ii_a) Davis families... Governor Fletcher of New York..., in 1696, also granted a 1200 acre patent to Jacob Cedebec, (2223[2]b) Thomas Swartwout, (1039v[1]) Gerritt Aeritsen and others in the Minisink region, and the Kakiate patent on the eastern end of the border to Honan and Hawden... By 1701 the Minisink Country area had enough residents to be given permission to hold an election as part of Ulster County, New York...

"...by 1716 the Minisink Patent (Walpack as it was known in New Jersey) had attracted enough settlers to support the first clergyman... Tension along the border had now reached the boiling point, and open battles began to erupt along the border. By 1720, Thomas and (2223[2]b1) Jacobus Swarwout of New York and (2079vii[2]a[1]) John and (2079vii[2]a8) Nicholas Westphalia of New Jersey were alternately burning each other's crops, claiming the others did not have proper title to their lands. This minor battle and many far worse would erupt over the next 49 years, until a final line was drawn by royal commission in 1769."

Machackemeck Church Records

"Researchers have been led to believe that church records for the Minisink aka Machackemeck (Deerpark) Dutch Reformed Church were lost for the years 1720- 1736. Histories of the Dutch Reform Churches in America reveal the following: The Deerpark Dutch Reformed Church was not established until 1737. Until that time, Dominies from the established Kingston Dutch Reformed Church travelled to the remote areas to perform baptisms which were later entered into the Kingston Dutch Reformed Church records

"The first Dominie at the Deerpark Dutch Reformed Church found notes on baptisms performed in 1716-1719 in Minisink that had never been recorded in Kingston. He appended them to the Deerpark records which actually began in 1737. Thus the appearance of missing records for 1720-1736."
