"(516[2][1]) Marinus [Van Auken] moved on [the Old Mine Road] from Esopus to Rochester, now called Accord, in Ulster County, N.Y. In quest of land, his four sons all moved down the road into the Neversink and Minisink valleys. Son (516[2][1]a) Pieter settled in Lehman Twp., Pike County: (516[2][1]h) Isaak crossed the Delaware river to put down roots in Montaque; and (516[2][1]g) Abraham moved farther down the road, both of these being in what was finally determined as being in Sussex County, New Jersey." The boundary between New York and New Jersey was not settled until 1772."

![]() ![]() (516) Moses Sr., born on the sea, hence his name, studied navigation and engaged to go as Capt. on a merchantman. He had leisure to go to Kingston, got acquainted with Miss (517) Maria Wynkoop, then went down to the ship. The ship wasn't going, so he came again and they were married. (517) Maria's land was traded for Beekman's half of Beekman's and (1106) Herman Hendrick Rosekrans' patent in Rochester. The De Puys went into the wilderness, and friends were alarmed for their safety. They lived for sometime under a tree. In 1689 the highest flood known before or after in the town made him get with his family and a few movables in the the barn, three day and three nights. They got on a spot of ground as soon as it was bare, and the barn was thrown down by a snow flurry 2 hours after. They were assisted by Rosekrans, living on the other side of the Rondout, using an old canoe. (They) walked around and prayed, after sueing for blessing. His house was afterwards burned down. He died 94 years old, having been `very healthy, of florid countenance, common size and broad, strong, straight, broad breast, prosperous, pious, respectable.'" (516) Moses was Justice of the Peace, and held the patent of the Town of Rochester with (512) Jochem Hendricksz Schoonmaker.
