This family of (8448) Ralfe Blanchard is an exercise of "enlightened fantasy". We do know that (8449i) John Blanchard, s/o Ralfe, was baptized 9 July 1564 in Pocklington. There's no evidence I'm aware of, that (4224) Nicholas was his brother. The presence of John in Thornton at this early date, though, along with an equally early presence of Blanchards in Spalding Moor, Bobwith, Howden and other places, strongly suggests that the family has been in the area for a long time and is not of Huguenot origin.   |
