"...(2136) George Soule came on the `Mayflower' as a servant to the Edward Winslow family, indicating he was under 25 years old at the time; however, he did sign the Mayflower Compact, suggesting he was over 21...
"(ix) Benjamin Soule was one of the "impressed soldiers" called out by the Plymouth Colony on February 8, 1675-6, and under the command of Capt. Michael Pierce was engaged in the ill-fated battle against outnumbering Indians who out-generaled him, led him with his men into a cunningly arranged ambuscade and hewed them in pieces. From the town of Scituate fifteen were slain; from Marshfield, nine were slain; from Duxbury, four were killed, among them Benjamin Soule....
"It appears that in 1662, [(vii) Elizabeth Soule] fell from grace by committing adultery with Nathaniel Church, to whom she was engaged to be married; he refusing to fulfill the compact, they were both convicted of the criminal act and each was fined œ5. However, the alliance was continued and for the second offense both were publicly brought to the whipping post and the lash applied. Refusing to recognize his obligation to take her as his wife, she sued him for breach of promise for the sum of œ100. He was convicted by the court, and the jury awarded her œ10 and costs of suit. She was subsequently married to Francis Walker.
"In 1667 [(iii) Nathaniel Soule] was fined œ20 ($100) for publicly scandalizing his minister, Rev. John Holmes; ...in 1671 he was fined œ5 and publicly whipped `for telling several lies which tended greatly to the hurt of the Colony.' ...in 1674--he was again brought to the whipping post and publicly flagelated as punishment for committing adultery with an Indian woman; and was ordered to pay `ten bushels of Indian corn' towards the keeping of the child.
"During the excitement against the Quakers (i) John Soule was fined for his interference upon their religious services 2d Oct., 1660."

Ysearch User #4ZM6Z claims descent from William Soule (1738-1811) of Dartmouth, Bristol, MA. FamilySearch shows this person to be in (2136) George Soule's line. His haplogroup is J2*. Another User, #FESHK (shown below, for first 25 markers), claims descent through Joshua, s/o Benjamin Jr., also purportedly in (2136) George's line. His results jibe with the SOULE Family TreeDNA Project (SFTDP) user #144168 and other users, and he is typed at Hg I1. Yet another SFTDP user, #61779, claimed descent from "George Soule, Pilgrim" and was found to be Hg R1a.

#FESHK's results are corroborated by over 30 SFTDP users claiming descent from (2136) George's sons (1068) George, (2137iv) Nathaniel and (2137iii) John; so I can safely assume that the line passing from (1068) George to (534) William to (535iv) Benjamin is part of the family descended from (2136) George the Pilgrim. Since this Benjamin was (267) Mary Soule's sister, the trail back from her to the Pilgrim Father is intact. What still needs to be proved, is that the latter's daughter (133) Mary Page was indeed the wife of (132) Joseph Blanchard

"(2138) David Thomas' death record is not in the vital record book, however I do have the inventory here with the date of 12 Dec. 1689. It says,
then goes on to name the others. It seems Joanna inherited the whole of it, quite unusual in those days. (2139ix) Mary and (2139iv) Joanna Thomas are both listed in Boston Vital Records on pgs. 156, 161 and the dates are assumed to be the date they were submitted and not their date of birth. There are no gravestones for the parents (2138) David and (2139) Joanna.
In the book 'Thomas Families of Plymouth County, Mass.' written by John Marshall Raymond (Thomas Family Publications, 1980) has a reference in the notes that say (2139) Joanna (Davis), I believe Davis is in reference to one of the contributors of the book and not her maiden name."

4272. prob. John Soule
4273. unknown (F)
"The "Mayflower Families ..." article says "In the chapter written by
Banks for Gideon G. T. Ridlon's 'Sole, Solly, Soule, Sowles and Soulis', Banks had cited as the father of George Soule, Robert Soule of Eckingham whom, he reported, had three sons, Thomas, Robert and George named in his will of 1612. Banks' conc[l]usion was that George the youngest son, 'answers best of all the candidates ....' However, later in the same chapter he stated that the parish records prior to 1612 had been lost but that 'an examination of the years remaining show that a George Soule married in 1631 and that a Nathaniel Soule, presumably his son, was baptized three years later'. This then disposed of George, son of Robert,
..."The article further states that recent research has not produced the
parents of George Soule."

"[(2136) George Soule] has been tentatively identified as son of (4272) John Soule of Eckington, Co. Worcester, and problably kinsman to Robert Soule, a wealthy London salter, who died in 1590 a native of Eckington. Robert Soule had a son Miles and a grandson of George, the Emigrant, also bore that name. All other George Soules found in England at that period have been satisfactorily eliminated. Fuller particulars of this identification will be found in the recently published Soule Genealogy for which a special extensive search covering a number of years was made by the compiler of this book.
"The Winslow family from which (9577iii) Edward was descended lived in the nearby parish of Kempsey, Co. Worcester, and it is probable that this early neighborhood association explains the apprenticeship of George Soule to the Governor. It is supposed that George Soule was in London when he joined Winslow on the voyage. Droitwich, the family home of the Winslows at that time, was a salt mining place connected in a business way with the Salters' Company of London in trade, and thus the Winslow-Soule association was extablished.
