(512) Jochem Hendricksze Schoonmaker was captain of the Ulster County foot militia in 1700 against the Indians. He was living in `Mombaccus', town of Rochester soon after his marriage and in 1703 became one of the first trustees of the Rochester Patent. He held the patent along with Henry Beekeman and (516) Moses DePuy. During the "Esopus War"
, (512) Jochem was carried away as a prisoner and held for three months. He was nine years old at the time.

Thomas Quick Jr. was called `The Indian Slayer', having killed 99 people, all of them of the Munsee band of Lene Lenape -- including women, infants and whole families --as a life-long revenge for the brutal murders of his father and relatives. One of these was said to have been his boyhood friend, who had taken part in the killing and scalping of Tom's father when he grew up. The number of those killed may have been exaggerated.
