"The Sturges... sheild I've been able to find (on the web and in books) shows a blue field with white chevron and 3 crosses... Just fyi, some merchant coins have been found in Hampton, England from 1660 of a Tristan Turgis with the same shield (chevron and 3 crosses) on the back. The one my father told me about has a sable field and 6 gold spear heads (all pointing up). The motto is the same, but the design above the helmet was diFerent also."

REF: Admins and Will Archdeaconry of Sarum to 1858 (Wiltshire Record OFice, Trowbridge), c/o Elizabeth Fricker. Names are from (4864) Henry's will, c/o Nathan Harvay

"There is a large tablet in the wall of the porch of Chilmark parish church in memory of a Henry Fricker who died in 1666, and an adjacent one for one of his sons... When we were looking at the stone a lady spoke to us who proved to live in `Fricker's House', so-called because it was built recently on a plot of land known as `Fricker's Field'"

-- John Fricker, Darlington, England 10 Jan. 2004

"Henry's will requests his executors to arrange for his body to be buried in the church porch of Chilmark near to his son Richard and leaves his farm at Ridge to his son William.

-- Vivienne Day vivienneday@tesco.net 7 Aug. 2004

"Henry Fricker, yeoman, died in 1660 (sic). He was a stonemason owning the farm adjacent to the Chilmark Church, land which, in 1964, was still in the family. Some years before his death he gave the Living of the Church to one of his sons. The fact that he had the right to bestow the Living means that he, or his family before him, must have been benefactors of the Church, possibly giving the land on which it is built...

"Lancelot’s cousin Madge Jukes lived in Fricker's Close. She has a copy of Henry Fricker's will. He was a man of substance it would seem, leaving the Living to one son, £50. each to several daughters, horses, plough and seed to another son..."

The plaques read as follows:

HEARE LYETH THE BODIE OF HENRY
FRICKER WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE
EXCHANGING THIS LIFE FOR GLORIE THE
12DAY OF SEPTEMBER ANNO DOM 1666

AND

HEARE LYETH THE BODY OF RICHARD THE
SECOND SONNE OF HENRY FRICKER WHOE
DEPARTED THIS LIFE 3DAY OF FEBRUARY
ANNO DOM 166-
(the last figure is indecipherable).
