Features of SCREENWRIGHT
Screenwright: the craft of screenwriting is an electronic screenwriting course and hypertext ebook delivered electronically. The PC version is driven by a powerful offline customized "browser" that has been pre-loaded onto the disk, so that you navigate the course exactly as you navigate the web (except, of course, you are offline). It requires minimum software and hardware: windows (any version) running on a 386 or faster PC. You need 2M free hard drive space and 4M RAM. There also is a Mac version, though the Mac version is not frequently updated and driven by your Internet browser.
Screenwright has many features for the screenwriting student:
- Two learning tracks: one for "tree people" (who like to plan first)
and one for "forest people" (sink-or-swim writers who like to jump right into a script). The vast majority of screenwriting books ignore the needs of "forest people."
- 12 different "modules" for easy progression through the course.
- Review of seven different screenplay paradigms, all of which emerge
from beginning-middle-end storytelling.
- Step-by-step guides to writing an original screenplay (one for each
learning track).
- Complete structural analysis of dozens of successful movies/scripts from half
a century of movie making.
- Complete articles by Charles Deemer that were first published in
Creative Screenwriting journal.
- Sample development of an original screenplay from concept to structure
to selected scripted scenes - you watch over my shoulder as I write and
rewrite a script - and discuss my choices along the way.
- Two complete screenplays: Between Heaven and Hell, which was optioned in summer, 1998, and its major revision a year later as Earthly Desires, which is the first script as rewritten under the supervision of a producer. Includes my discussion of the experience of making major changes in collaboration with a producer.
- Several drafts of short script written for a NY filmmaker, with comments on revisions, plus
finished film available on the Internet.
- Large marketing section, including WGA-signatory agency list.
- Realistic view of building a screenwriting career.
- Always current - an electronic book can be updated as necessary. I frequently am adding more recent examples.
- Ability to save and manage bookmarks.
- Ability to print files.
- Reasonably priced at $35/$40 (in comparison, my online classes start
at $270).
- And much more, in over 2M of material for screenwriting students.
